Should I have a contract with my provider?

YES! Simply put, a contract or work agreement is critical to the ongoing relationship between your family and the caregiver. Most adult day care centers will provide families with detailed information about the center's operation, including hours, payment, safety, vacation and holiday policies, weather emergencies and more. Families choosing in-home companion care are responsible to develop a contract or work agreement with the caregiver. The work agreement should fully spell out duties, hours, compensation and benefits. Avoid squabbles over sick pay, overtime, or duties - make sure these are all clearly addressed and understood on paper. The work agreement protects the caregiver and the family. A fantastic resource for families is the Ten Tips Series for Families Hiring a Domestic provided by HomeWork Solutions, a leading household employment tax services provider.
